When the Wi-Fi Don’t Cooperate—Day 19

Days on the Camino 0

Darn Wi-Fi

Technology ... It is hard to believe how much we rely on technology. Even walking the Camino, I relied in technology. I relied on technology writing posts. I relied on technology using Google Translate. I relied on technology looking at Google Maps.

Tonight the Wi-Fi didn't work so well.

Yet, every dark cloud has a silver lining, right? I had a good rest (no Wi-Fi induced distractions). I took the time to rest my feet and soothe the blister(s) on Lefty.

Perhaps it is good that the Darn Wi-Fi decided to take a break.

Sunrising in the East.

Great Sunrise

Before the liberation from the Darn Wi-Fi, a sunrise like no other greeted me from the East as I faced Alto de Mostelares in the West. I paused a few times to turn and admire creation's beauty.

A surprise awaited me during the steep ascend. A friendly Bonjour! greeted me. Won't you believe, it was the two French Ladies I met a week ago. We chatted for a bit; they even asked how the blisters on Lefty was doing and offered some helpful advice to try.

At the top of Alto de Mostelares I took well earned rest. And here I met a few old friend—the folks from Hamilton, ON; and Jessica, the Swiss lady—and new friends—a couple from Invermere, BC.

Dominee Dewald

And then I met two ladies. They were from the home country, South Africa. We spoke Afrikaans, which was nice. And before too long I was Dominee Dewald van die Vrystaat (Reverend Dewald from the Free State). They were friends since grade school and even though one lives in Jeffrey's Bay and the the other in Durban, they decided to walk the Camino together. We enjoyed each others company for about 1/3 of the way.

San Martin, Frómista

San Martin, Frómista

There are three churches in Frómista, San Martin is the oldest church. It was founded by the widow of Sancho III of Navarra around 1066. It is a beautiful church and it said to be one of the best examples of Romanesque in Spain.

At the end of the day, I enjoyed dinner. Rested my feet. And wondered when the Darn Wi-Fi will work.
